Yet another week has gone by and I didn't do a single pose for the pose a day challenge. Oops. I'm still trying to get used to this whole working thing again... and the insanely early mornings and being very physically active thing isn't helping much with that either. But, I'm getting a paycheck and getting into shape, so que sera sera.
We did the first splining pass on our shot this week. The whole blocking in spline has helped me SO MUCH. Seriously, I wish someone had told me about this 6 months ago. Instead of making me want to pull my hair out, moving out of blocking was actually... fun.
I think the timing needs to be tweaked a bit still, some of the action needs to be smoothed out, and the spine needs to be loosened up, but I think it's coming along, and we've still got two more weeks working on this one. Yay!

The Origin of Hockey
Every week when we submit our assignments, we can also submit a note to our mentor. To make a long story short, my mentor, Steve, jokingly told me that I should but something in my notes about hockey. He's big on hockey (he's Canadian, enough said) and said he likes trivia.
At first I thought about trying to find some weird, bizarre hockey trivia to add to my notes. But I had a feeling anything weird or bizarre I could come up with might be weird and bizarre to me, but not to someone who really likes hockey.
So, instead, I decided to uncover the secret origin of hockey. I was completely certain that Steve wasn't familiar with it (since I was the only person in the entire world who knew about it). And here is the true story behind hockey:
Once upon a time, in a land far to the north, there were Vikings. As I'm sure you are aware, Vikings were rather fond of pillaging and plundering. One cold afternoon after a particularly successful episode of pillaging and plundering, two Viking ships, captained by the fearless Ketilbiorn and the slightly more fearful Hogni, turned toward home. Unfortunately, they hadn't gone far when a huge storm swept them off course. After fighting the icy wind and waves for what seemed like ages, the crews of both ships collapsed from exhaustion. When they revived, they discovered that both ships had managed to stay together, but were frozen solid in the ice. Ketilbiorn spotted land off in the distance and realized that they would be able to walk across the ice to land. Both crews were ready to head out across the ice, but no one seemed very interested in carrying any of the gold they had recently plundered. Ketilbiorn and Hogni weren't keen on leaving the gold behind. The captains demanded, threatened, begged, and pleaded, but the crew was far more excited about making it to land than about carrying the gold. Hogni then had a brilliant idea. He spilled the gold coins onto the ice, pried some oars out of the ice, and told everyone that the crew who could hit the most gold coins across the ice to land would be given the last cask of ale. Being the competitive sort of Vikings, as well as being quite fond of ale, this was met with hearty approval, and both crews got busy whacking gold coins across the ice with oars. Two enterprising Vikings, Leiknir and Gorm, decided to try to block gold coins hit by the other crew. Once the crews and the gold were safely ashore, the winner was declared and the cask of ale presented. As it is difficult to successfully drink ale straight from a cask, the winning crew appropriated a cup from a Viking called Stanley (admittedly not a very Viking-like name, his parents were trying to be unique). The Viking crews enjoyed the competition so much that they continued to play it while stranded on this far away land. They decided, for whatever reason, to call this strange new land "Canadia" and named the new game "Ho-Ke" after the two captains who invented it. Gorm and Leiknir's contribution to the game was also honored with the creation of the "Go-Lei," whose job it was to block shots from the opposing crew.
And that is the truth behind how hockey began.
(Credit must also go to my husband for suggesting that the Vikings were involved. :-D)

Ninja the Third
I completely slacked off on the pose a day challenge this week. Didn't do a single one. I think maybe I should work on that this next week... :-)
We did blocking for our third and final shot of the term this week. Speaking of which, this term has FLOWN by. We're now starting week 9 out of 12!!! Anyway... I was expecting the blocking to be complicated and mildly stressful and... it wasn't. I actually had a lot of fun working on the blocking for the shot, and it was really, really nice. I finally feel like maybe I made some progress (only took eight months - 10 if you count springboard last summer)...
...of course, I haven't gotten my critique yet, so maybe I'm totally off, but right now I'm feeling good about the assignment.
And without further ado, here is it:

Ninja Stewie Strikes Again
I'm not sure how I managed to get everything done this week... Work has been kicking my butt, and this was one of those finish one shot and plan the next weeks. But I survived. Yay!
Here's the final of my second shot:
It still needs some work, some of the movement is kind of wonky. So, it could be better, but there you go.
I did my planning for my next shot, still sticking with the ninja theme. My video reference is totally fantastic:
Again, I know that you're blown away by my acting ability. It's a natural response. :-)
I saw the Avengers last night. It seems like every time I seen a movie or read a book that everyone raves about, I come away disappointed at best and sometimes wondering why the heck anyone would even like it, much less rave about it. (Prime example: Twilight. Gag. How can people like it, much less be so obsessed about it?) Anyway, I went in to the movie trying not to expect too much, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it. It was a pretty awesome movie.
I also had my first experience with Orange Leaf last night. I've avoided it so far because I was afraid of a new obsession... It was totally freaking awesome. I've been plotting all morning when I can go back. I think we're in dangerous territory.

Weight lifter Stewie
It's been a nutty week. This is my second full week of work... it's going a bit smoother than last week, but I'm still wiped out. Then we had fun internet issues... again. Always makes for a fun time.
The theme this week is "load bearing." I decided to do a weight lifter:
I had to change it a bit since Stewie was the weird melon head. But I thought it came out okay...

More Clumsy Ninja
Splining this week went a little smoother. Steve suggested I try blocking in splined mode to see if that helped, and it seemed to. We've still got another week to finish this shot up, which is good, because it definitely needs more work...

Swan Dive
I decided to try a swan dive today... it was harder than I thought it would be to find a decent picture for reference... oh well.
It came out looking a little weird... but I'm too tired to worry about it right now. :-D
